CATALAN CELLAR
Catalonia enjoys 11 Denominations of Origin relating to wine and a Denomination of Origin Cava. Thus, in this section a complete directory compiling all the wine cellars of our Catalonian land.
DO ALELLA
Between the tradition and the politeness, in Alella the vineyards let themselves rock for the sea breeze, while they scratch terrain and its roots in some grounds that they allow introduce a good drainage and they retain the solar radiation.
DO CATALUNYA
Catalunya Designation of Origin is situated in the north-est of the Iberian Peninsula between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees.
DO CAVA
The origin of Cava is associated to the splendor of Catalan viticulture in the middle of XIXth century and to the Champagne renown towards the end of XVIIIth century.
DO CONCA DE BARBERĀ
The evolution of wine producing in Conca de Barberā is tightly related to the region's evolution. Its most remote antecedents are found in Roman times, and possible before.
DO COSTERS DEL SEGRE
The territory of Rafters of the Segre reaches terrains of the regions from the Pallars Jussā, the Segriā, the Urgell, the Garrigues, the Noguera and the Segarra. Six subzones are distinguished: Raīmat, Segriā, Pallars Jussā, the Garrigues, Valley of Crooked River and Artesa.
DO EMPORDĀ
The Empordā has a great variety of wines. The red wines are high quality, full-bodied, well-structured and harmonious, sometimes with added hues thanks to careful aging.
DO MONTSANT
Since the beginning of time, the lands of D.O. Montsant have lived harmoniously with human activities and their respect for the environment. This respect even reaches the spiritual realms, as the Montsant mountain range has been and to a certain extent still is a refuge for people searching to cultivate spiritual aspects of their lives.
DO PENEDČS
The "Consell Regulador" of the Origin Denomination was founded in 1960. Viticulture began to have a big importance in the Penedčs, some enterprises were begin stablished which elaborated and bottled their wines in their own properties, and they started to commercialyze them.
DO PLA DE BAGES
The Pla de Bages is a privileged zone, placed in the middle of mythical mountainous formations like Montserrat and the Saw of Castelltallat, the Nature Reserve of Sant Llorenį del Munt and the Shady Side or the massif of Montcau.
DO PRIORAT
The Estatuto del Vino (rule wine) promulgated in 1932 by the Ministry of Agriculture had already recognised the Priorat as wine zone to protect. The application and execution of this Law could not carry out due to the sociopolitical circumstances lived to the country until the end of the civil war.
DO TARRAGONA
The origin of the Appellation of Origin Tarragona is not known with precision. Historical remains point out that the vineyard was cultivated in Cataluņa when the Greek colonies were settling north of the catalan coast.
DO TERRA ALTA
The Denomination of Origin "Terra Alta" was born in year 1972. The first regulations of the D.O and of its Regulatory Piece of Advice were approved of by the Order of 28 May of 1982, published in the DOGC number 238 of 7 July of 1982.
